There’s no denying the whimsy of pawing over hardcover recipe books for hours on end to seek out some new culinary inspiration. But, for the sake of convenience, many of us food-loving types are embracing apps to find delicious dishes, ideal eateries, and tips and advice to make our lives easier in the kitchen and on the go. Computer-assisted wine matching, worldwide restaurant recommendations, cocktail recipes, and seasonal veg planting advice can all be found at the mere touch of button (or screen).

Move over recipe book stand, find a handy spot for your iPad or laptop on the countertop and try out some of these delicious new culinary convenience apps:

Amount

For those of you continually frustrated by recipes that aren’t converted into your native measurement unit, Amount will do all the hard work for you. Convert ounces to grams, grams to teaspoons, cups to pounds and more. The app also has a bunch of other handy tools, including a currency and energy converter.

Paperless Post

Paperless Post allows you to send event invites and greeting e-cards, monitor RSVPs and loads more. The perfect app to manage your guest invites to your next full scale dinner party, wedding, or other big event.

Vivino

Forget training as a sommelier, Vivino is your handy guide to selecting wines to perfectly compliment your meals. Simply scan the barcode on any bottle of wine, and a list of reviews, food matches, and prices will appear as if by magic.

Humane Eating Project

If you’re vegan, vegetarian or only opt for ethically-sourced food, then the Human Eating Project app will help you to track down all the nearby restaurants that tick those boxes. It’s a handy tool if you’re travelling abroad and have limited knowledge of the local veg scene.

Green Kitchen

Another app for the vegetarians amongst us (there’s a lot of us at Khoollect), Green Kitchen offers an endless supply of delicious and easy-to-make recipes with the bare minimum of sugar, gluten and dairy.

Epicurious

If you’re a devout foodie and smartphone user, then you’ve more than likely stumbled upon Epicurious – one of the world’s most popular recipe apps. With more than 35,000 free recipes, this offering by Conde Nast is a handy go-to resource when you’re short on dinner ideas.

EquiTable is automatically splits the bill for you in an equitable, non-discriminative way, based on Labour statistics. We’ve got our doubts, but give it a try and let us know how you get on…
