Between running a business, presenting TV shows on the other side of the world and keeping up with general ‘life admin’, my days can get pretty busy. So, while sitting in airports, waiting rooms, or in the back of a cab en route to a meeting, I need to ensure I can keep on top of things in the simplest way possible. For these reasons, I love using apps. These days, there’s an app for everything. Here are some of the clever apps I love to use most:

  • Cakewalk: your alternative step-counter. In need of some motivation to help you get moving? Well, this not-so-sweet app gives you abuse and sarcasm (while humiliating you publicly). It certainly does the trick.
  • Feedly: this nifty app aggregates all my blogs and news feeds in the one place. It’s a great app to while away the time I spend waiting at an airport, and for keeping up to date with my favourite reads.
  • CalenGoo: perfect for those (like me!) who use digital calendars. This app syncs with my Google Calendar and is super easy to use.  And, it does what it says on the packet.
  • Receipt Bankthis one makes keeping track of receipts easy. And, there’s no need to worry about losing pieces of paper. All you need to do is take a snap of your receipt and your photo gets uploaded to your account. It can also be synced with QuickBooks and your bank accounts.
  • Duolinguo: this has to be the best language app I’ve ever tried. Duolinguo makes learning a language anywhere, at any time, possible. Squeezing ten minutes of practice in twice a day is easily done with this app. It sure beats those language CDs I used to try years ago.
  • BBC iPlayer Radio: ideal for those moments when I’m feeling a little homesick for London. Nothing cures homesickness like listening to a BBC newsreader telling me the day’s stories, or Big Ben striking midnight.
  • Asana: this task-managing app is something we use to manage tasks here at Khoollect HQ. We’ve been using it for the past six months; it’s really cut down on email traffic, and also helped to keep track of all the different tasks that need to be managed. This is super helpful when you have different members of the team working all over the world (like I do!).

What are your favourite apps? Have you tried any of these?
