I’m a big fan of Serena Williams. In the past, Serena has been the focus of online bullying, body shaming and racial abuse. Now a 22-time grand slam winner, she’s shown everyone that nothing will stop her from living her dream. I hope that her final battle on Wimbledon Centre Court inspired people; not just in sports, but in all endeavors. To me, she’s the ultimate woman; empowering, hardworking and supportive of others.

A journalist once asked her what it was like to be one of the greatest female athletes of all time. She responded eloquently, stating, ‘I prefer the words: one of the greatest athletes of all time’.

Part of Serena’s final speech after her most recent win at Wimbledon included a video montage of her rise to glory. I was touched by Serena’s recital of ‘I will rise’, written by Maya Angelou. BBC sport tweeted the film:

I’m thoroughly looking forward to seeing what Serena has in store for the future. For now, here’s a quote from her to get you through the day:

‘The success of every woman should be the inspiration to another. We should raise each other up. Make sure you’re very courageous: be strong, be extremely kind, and above all be humble.’
