Sandwiched between the busy hubs of Leicester Square and Covent Garden in London lies a tranquil and stylish sushi and sake restaurant: Murakami. The Khoollect team were lucky enough to be invited to try out some Japanese delights.
This evocative restaurant would be perfect for anyone seeking a pre-theatre treat before seeing a West End show, or perhaps a celebratory feast among friends, enjoying a large range of authentic tapas-style dishes.
Starting with delicate Salmon Sashimi with toasted sesame and a citrus dressing, spicy edamame beans and a selection of Aburi Rainbow Rolls, Murakami’s signature dish, our taste buds certainly began to tingle. The fresh flavours lived up to the crisp, colourful presentation of the dishes and as every new plate was brought out and devoured we found ourselves looking forward more and more to the next culinary treat. Our real indulgence came during the second course as we ordered a portion of Wagyu Beef, a prized Japanese delicacy and definitely a dish for the bucket list for any serious carnivores. The meat is known for its marbled texture and ours came with a perfectly seared exterior, tender interior and a strong but very complimentary truffle butter on the side. Even the salad was well cared for with a zesty soy and ginger dressing. With our Wagyu we had crunchy Grilled Cauliflower, which came with a rich peanut and black goma sauce for dipping as well as Crispy Baby Squid; delicate and crispy, just how you imagined!
We are no Sake experts but we were expertly guided to two very smooth shots, one rich and fragrant with a dry finish (Takashimizu Junmai Daiginjo), the other slightly sweeter with aromas of pears and apples (Shichida Junmai). We also noted their good range of Japanese Whiskies for the single malt connoisseurs.
Needless to say we had a great time and came away feeling like our Sunday had been satisfied. For anyone looking to try Murakami out, they do a Bento Box for £12.50 (Sunday – Friday, 12-4) which will give you an all-rounded, flavoursome experience.
