Rainbow refreshments: the 5 fun lattes you have to try

It’s no secret that Team Khoollect love to put food and drink trends to the test as soon as they roll into London Town. And, well, having sampled our fair share of trending hot beverages over the past year, we’ve become partial to a selection of colourful lattes. Sure, we’re purists when it comes to a decent cup of coffee, but sometimes (FriYAY, for instance), a fun dairy-free latte is the perfect remedy to a grey London morning.
Here are the five rainbow-inspired lattes we suggest you get sipping on:
- The turmeric latte or ‘golden mylk’
If you’re a fan of chai lattes, and like a little spice to flavour your mornings, try this bright yellow latte (sometimes called golden mylk) to kick-start the day with colour. I make this recipe at home, but am prone to ordering a turmeric latte in cafes too (this one was from Treize Bakery in Paris). - The classic matcha latte
Didn’t your mum ever tell you to drink your greens? A matcha latte made from Japanese matcha (green tea) powder is a low-decaf substitute for coffee that provides a warming drop on a winter’s day. This is an oldie, but a goodie. - The blue latte
An interesting blend that is said to have originated in the cafes of Melbourne, blue lattes are most commonly made from algae or seaweed bases that create pretty sky-coloured brews. Perhaps not the first preference for those who prefer their Earl Grey and English Breakfast blends, this one has to be sipped to be understood. The blue latte is not to be confused with Brooklyn’s infamous unicorn latte. - The rose latte
This one’s an ideal introduction to the colourful world of rainbow lattes, for those who still want their caffeinated kick of coffee. The rose latte (try Farm Girl Cafe in West London for a delightful sup) is a blend of coffee, rose-infused milk and rose petals. - The lavender latte
A gentle hint of lavender tints this purple drink that makes an Insta-worthy snap. Visit East London’s Palm Vaults cafe, pioneers in rainbow latte innovations, to try your first (and perhaps follow it up with one of their pink velvet lattes too).
