Saying a cookbook is special is overdone (we’re guilty of it sometimes) but with Olia and Kaukasis, there’s something so moving and warm with her writing, the way she is able to convey decades of familiar history into a single recipe, that it’s difficult to comprehend calling her anything but special.

This week it’s your chance to win Kaukasis, the follow-on to her award-winning debut cookbook Mamushka.

Food is everything for me. It has the ability to make our lives easier, make us feel better and more alive. It brings people together whether it’s family or friends. That feeling of working and appreciating an ingredient and what it can produce if you know how to use it.

I love trying different flavours and textures of food and trying new things, especially when I go to different countries, it is part of experiencing different cultures. Food is love to me. I lost someone hugely important on Sunday evening through cancer and I sat wondering how we were brought together. Her love of food and hospitality was enormous, she would pick the best produce she could and prepare dishes that we could all feast over and enjoy. My love of food and entertaining came from her and it is love that enables me to remember her forever.

Food for me is home. Comfort and connection. Whatever the day has been like, it is a chance to sit together, however briefly or shambolically, chat and enjoy something good.
I love whipping together meals that seem to come from nowhere. I love making things I was taught by mama who was taught by her mama. I love changing it and adding my own twist.
So I guess food is family to me too 🙂
