Whether you’re jetting off on a sun-drenched beach escape, spending lazy Sundays soaking in rays at the park, or even getting a dose of vitamin D on your walk to work, summer can put your skin to the test.

We all know we need to lather on a coat of SPF before baring our bods to the sun, but there’s more to summer skincare than slapping on the sun cream.

Here, Beauty Expert tells us some simple tips for keeping your skin healthy and happy during the warmer months, and what to include in your summer beauty kit:

Awaken

Shake off the winter scales and refresh your face with a reviving mask or peel. A cooling glycolic peel can be a great twice-weekly skin brightener. Try Caudalie Glycolic Peel for happier skin in ten minutes.

Hydrate

We often associate winter with dry skin, but during the warmer months your skin still needs plenty of moisture too. Drinking lots of water and applying a good quality moisturiser, morning and night, will keep you glowing. For your body, try Antipodes Jubilation Ultra Nourishing Hand & Body Cream; for your hands, apply some of Institut Karite’s Lavender & Shea Light Hand Cream; and, for you face, allow your skin to drink in Dr. Hauschka’s Regenerating Day Cream.

Refresh

A day spent in the sun, even while wearing sun cream, can leave your skin looking (and feeling) flushed. Although it’s good to give you skin a break from the sun throughout the day, using a nourishing post-sun product like Jurlique’s Calendula Redness Rescue, Restorative Treatment Serum or Cream can help soothe and smooth. Repair creams like Peter Thomas Roth’s Rose Stem Cell Bio-Repair Precious Cream or Gel Mask can also work wonders for sunned-out faces.

Some skin types find the addition of an oily sun cream can prompt unwelcomed breakouts. If this happens, a non-drying solution like Dr. Nick Lowe’s Deep Action Blemish Serum is your new go-to summertime trick
