Rachel Khoo’s five-minute fresh face makeup tutorial

Only have five minutes to spare? I hear you, which is why I’ve decided to share the fresh face look I recently nailed due to the new arrival in my family. It’s a minimal amount of makeup (if I’m travelling somewhere I’ll often just pack these essentials plus a red lipstick); just enough so you feel refreshed and ready for the world.

Take a peek below at what’s in my makeup essentials bag and then watch how I get ready in five minutes. Please excuse my makeup applying skills. It was the first time I’ve ever tried doing this kind of video…I don’t know how those beauty bloggers do it!

Foundation

Givenchy Teint Couture Balm (I use shade 4)

This foundation is perfect for a natural, light finish, but it wouldn’t work for a big breakout or heavy bags.

Bronzer

Mac Bronzing Powder in Matt Bronze

I’ve had this bronzing powder since I filmed The Little Paris Kitchen. It’s been my go-to bronzer because it doesn’t have a shimmer to it and gives me the perfect glow without making me feel tangoed.

Brush

It might not technically be the ‘right’ bronzing brush, but I like the handy size (perfect when I’m on the go) and the soft bristles makes it perfect for blending in the bronzer.

Blusher

Smashbox L.A. Lights Blendable Lip & Cheek Color in Beverly Hills Blush

This lip and cheek colour also has a spongy end you can use it to blend the colour into your cheeks… but I just use my fingers. The colour gives me a great ‘I’ve just been on a walk’ glow.

Eyebrow pencil

Shu Uemura eyebrow pencil hard formula in no.6

It’s a bit pricey, this one, but the colour is perfect for my eyebrows. In the past, I’ve always found the brown eyebrow pencils either too light or too dark. When you purchase the pencil, it’s sharpened in a way that makes it easier to fill your eyebrows (you can get this done anytime at Shu Uemura counters). I bought the pencil at Selfridges (they don’t seem to have it available online).

Eyelash curler

I bought these a while ago (they now have changed them from a silver finish to a matt black one) and should really replace the rubber insert on them to give my eyelashes more of an oompf. They’re cheap and cheerful and do the job.

Mascara

L’oreal false lash wings waterproof in black. Apparently this is now out of stock in the UK.

I got mine for free from a makeup counter, but they’re easy to come across in stores.
