New York-based filmmaker and photographer Marie C is in the business of creating food for others’ viewing pleasure in her cult hit online series, My Life in Sourdough. This bread-obsessed New Yorker shares her favourite spots around the city to seek out bread, and to unwind intermittently, before seeking out more heady bready delights.

"You feed me water when all I want is flour. I work for you all night and you don't see me. But it's for you that I breathe, for you that I bubble, for you that I rise. You're my movement but I'm your base. You bring me salt but I bring you life. You make me grow but I make you shine. You are my love but I'm your reason to live" – Fluffy, February 24th 2018. #mysourdoughstarter is a poet. ⠀⠀ • • • • • • #ryebread #mylifeinsourdough #instafoodie #instafood #instatoday #instarecipe #foodie #instalove #instacook #instalife #food #today #love #recipe #sourdough #wildyeast #homebakery #levainnaturel #sourdoughbread #breadbaking #bakedgoods #painaulevain #bakery #eating #breadordead #breadlover #boulangerie #breadmaking #flourwatersalt⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ ⠀⠀

Top three bakeries in New York City

  • She Wolf bakery has great sourdough loaves that you can pick up at a farmer’s market.
  • Bien Cuit for very good baguettes (which is a rare thing in New York).
  • Dominique Ansel for great pâtisserie.

Favourite New York delicacy and where to get the best version

I love a New York pretzel, particularly the ones from Runner and Stone Bakery in Brooklyn.

Best place for fresh produce

Union square farmer’s market.

Pomegranates!! In salads or with pasta and pesto!

Where to linger over a long lunch

I love Reynard inside the Wythe Hotel in Brooklyn. Super fresh ingredients, and killer eggs benedict. While you’re there, go up to their rooftop bar which has an amazing view of Manhattan.

Favourite hidden NYC spot

Transmitter Park in Greenpoint, Brooklyn – a little quiet park with a breathtaking view of the Manhattan skyline.

Best activity on a rainy day

Cross the Brooklyn Bridge.

Winter in NYC 2 years ago right when I was writing season 3 of My life in sourdough! Shorter days, gloomy weather, scarcer produce: it's hard to stay inspired in the winter. That's why I am currently testing a collection of life-changing dinner recipes that I will share with you next week 🙂 Get ready for your winter life to change! ⠀ • • • • • • #mylifeinsourdough #instafood #instarecipes #recipeshare #recipeideas #blackandwhite #recipetesting #recipebook #recipeoftoday #recipesforselflove #recipedevelopment #Newyork #brooklynbridge #recipeidea #recipedeveloper #recipeinspo #recipeoftheweek #recipeinspiration #lovesnow #winterstyle #recipecreator #recipesharing #snowinbrooklyn #winterinNY #lifechanging #lifechangingexperience #photo #lovewinter #wintertime #snow

Best places to catch a live gig

Nothing beats a production at the Metropolitan Opera. I also love to see dance shows at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and The Joyce Theater in Manhattan.

Most chilled spot to spend a Sunday morning

In my kitchen making bread.

“When spring came, even the false spring, there were no problems except where to be happiest. The only thing that could spoil a day was people and if you could keep from making engagements, each day had no limits. People were always the limiters of happiness except for the very few that were as good as spring itself.” – Hemingway gets me. Always. ⠀ •⠀ •⠀ •⠀ •⠀ •⠀ #spring #blossom #petal #bloom #petals #instablooms #sopretty #insta_pick_blossom #flowerslovers #botanical #blooms #floweroftheday #flowermagic #floral #flowerstagram #florals #flowersofinstagram #flowerporn #plants #flowerstyles_gf #springtime #flower #winter #primavera #tulips #flowersofnewyork #nyc #newyork #newyorkcity #hemingway

Ideal picnic spots around the city
I love McCarren Park – a small chill park in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They have picnic tables, so I end up bringing a tablecloth and plates and we have a proper sit down picnic in the park.
