Expert terrarium landscape artist Kali Vermès of Grow Little shares her tips on creating your own version of miniature gardens encased in glass at home.

1. Get your materials ready

You’ll need a glass container or vessel, soil, stones for drainage, and store bought miniature plants or young shoots found outdoors in the garden or growing between stones.

2. Select the right plants

Woodland plants work best for me – you’ll need shade-loving plants that like humidity.

3. Use your environment as inspiration

Follow your intuition and think back to the last time you walked through the woods.

4. Give your terrarium care and attention

Water your terrarium every eight days or so depending on how warm your house is.
