Get to know Khoollect’s Deputy Editor Sonya Gellert a little better, in eight simple questions…

What’s your secret talent?

On occasion, I speak Japanese and play guitar (but not at the same time). Please don’t ask me to do either of these things in public.

If you were a fruit or vegetable, what would you be?

I’m almost certain I’d be a cruciferous vegetable. My hair resembles curly kale a lot of the time, so that would be fitting.

Which actor would play you in a film about your life?

As a kid, it would have been Shirley Temple. Now I’d like to think it would be a young Vivien Leigh; but it’d probably be more like Fran Drescher playing The Nanny.

What would the title of your memoir be?

‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’… I’ll need to check if that’s been taken yet.

What’s your pet hate?

The sound of someone biting into a green apple, and the improper use of ‘they’re, their and there’.

What were your childhood hobbies, and do you still practise them now?

I was an experience junkie child. I took up brownies, roller skating, gymnastics, netball, choir, and guitar… among other things. Reading, writing and camping are the hobbies that really stuck. But, Lara and Hannah can confirm that I still sing the occasional show tune at Khoollect HQ.

What’s your guilty pleasure?

Purchasing books and magazines. Somebody stop me.

What song best describes you?

‘Paperback Writer’ by The Beatles, or ‘You Talk Way Too Much’ by The Strokes.
