Since making the change to using coconut oil in our cooking and lifestyle, we’ve been on the look-out for the next big nut. With miracle cures and benefits at the height of every health conscious conversation, we researched the cold, hard facts of the latest nut oil trend: the macadamia.

Cooking

Macadamia nut oil could be your new cooking companion. Much like coconut oil, it has a high smoke point (210°C) – meaning it can be used for cooking, sautéing and roasting without losing the essential properties that make it so good for us.

Baking

Ideal for vegans or lactose intolerance, macadamia nut oil is a great non-dairy alternative to butter – imparting a nutty and even buttery note to your baked goods.

Drizzling

Macadamia nut oil is perfect for drizzling over food – adding that nutty flavour and finishing off any dish with flare. Use as a base for salad dressings, like in our go-to simple dressing, or even in a caesar salad recipe.

Our Khoollect tip: drizzle over store–bought houmous to not only compliment the flavours, but to give it that I-just-made-this look.

Beautifying

Boasting a high concentration of palmitoleic acid (rarely found in veg oils and mostly in fish oils), macadamia nut oil is frequently used in cosmetic and skincare products. With excellent absorbency – meaning it won’t clog your pores! – and the power to plump, it’s perfect for those with dry or ageing skin. It’s light, non-greasy and gives a dewy, youthful look.

Also a saviour to heat-damaged hair, it restores the moisture into your hair and scalp, giving you nourished, strong and glossy hair.

Cleaning

Not just a beauty remedy, you can also use macadamia nut oil as a make-up brush cleaner. The oil works like a magnet by drawing out make-up and any dirt from the brush head. Add a few drops to a sheet of kitchen towel, wipe the brush and rinse off in soapy water.
