A good night’s sleep can be the difference between feeling daisy-fresh in the morning or looking (and feeling) like a zombie panda. For some, sleep comes naturally each evening; while for others, trying to sleep can be a real challenge — a time when thoughts of the next day’s plans creep in. But there are a number of little things you can do to help ease yourself into sleep each evening.

Here are some handy tips to help you drift off into dreamland sooner:

Set a strict sleep time

It can be tricky when things get busy, but setting yourself a sleep routine can help train your brain to feel tired around the same time each day.

(All) lights out early

By setting a cut-off time to close the laptop, turn off your phone and switch off the TV, (at least half an hour before you intend to nod off), you can prevent over-stimulating your brain in the lead-up to sleep.

Settle your mind

Meditation, mindfulness and relaxation exercises can be effective ways to let your thoughts melt away; but, if these techniques are not for you, try jotting your thoughts, concerns or to-do list on paper before you sleep. Reading a book, particularly fiction, can be a lovely way to settle your mind too.
