New year, new films. 2017 has unveiled an entire ensemble of unseen cinematic delights to look forward to, and we can’t wait to get watching. Whether you’re a rom-com enthusiast or wartime story fan, we’ve got a selection of films that’ll make you laugh, cry and feel inspired to chase your daydreams. Sit back, grab your favourite movie snack and put those comfy pyjamas on. Forget about your new year cardio goals for an hour or two, and become a film buff instead. Who knows, you could be the next Spielberg.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople

If a bizarre sense of humour, quirky soundtrack and beautiful landscape is your thing, this dark, but somewhat charming, New Zealander-produced film reveals the misadventures of Ricky Baker and his foster father, who run away to the wilderness and become part of an infamous manhunt.

The Book of Love

A troubled teen, searching to find her long-lost father, and a recently widowed architect work together to build a raft and sail across the ocean. This film will inspire you to go forth on the adventures you have yet to plan.

Dunkirk

Stranded in France, a group of soldiers attempt to make their way to the shores of Dunkirk in hope of being rescued. Starring One Direction’s Harry Styles, even if wartime tales aren’t for you, I bet you’ll want to watch this one.

La La Land

While Sebastian and Mia work diligently to make their dreams come true, their triumphs pull their love affair, and their aspirations, apart.

Manchester by the Sea

An unhappy handyman gets summoned back to his hometown after receiving news that his brother has passed away, and he’s been named guardian to his teenage nephew. Not only challenged with raising a 16-year-old, his hometown visit reveals a past trauma too.

A United Kingdom

During the 1940s, Prince Seretse Khama of Botswana marries a white woman from London and consequently shocks the nation. Beautifully shot, this film reveals the hardships of a love against all odds.

A twist on the fairytale classic starring Emma Watson, what’s not to love?

Tulip Fever

Starring our favourite eccentric model, Cara Delevingne, Tulip Fever sees duchess and an artist embark on a whirlwind love affair where she attempts to escape her wealthy tradesman husband by switching identities with her maid. While strained to keep their love affair secret, the couple invests their entire livelihood in the high-stakes tulip market.

Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2
