If you’ve managed to catch my appearances on My Kitchen Rules Australia, Rachel Khoo’s Kitchen Notebook  or The Little Paris Kitchen, then you will be well aware that I’m totally enamoured with rouge lipsticks. I get a lot of questions from viewers about what colour I’m wearing, or which is my favourite, but I can tell you now – there are just so many to choose from.

From dark evening tones to vibrant summery hues, I’ve got the whole spectrum covered. After a quick rummage through my makeup bag, I can reveal my top five red lippies, along with some tried-and-true tips for long-lasting application:

1. MAC: Russian Red
You can’t go wrong with this classic – it’s the lipstick I wear the most. It’s matte and stays on really well. The only downside is your lips might feel dry by the end of day, so make sure you remove all the colour before bed and slather on lots of Vaseline or an enriching lip balm.

2. Chanel: Rouge Allure Velvet 51 La Bouleversante
One of the newest in my collection, this lipstick has quickly become a firm favourite. A rich berry shade, with a lovely light finish – fab for a during the day look.

3. Yves Saint Laurent: 203 Rouge Pur Couture
A classic matte red, with a lovely rich, deep colour. If you want to splurge on just one high-quality designer red lipstick, then this is the one I’d recommend.

4. Tom Ford: Cherry Lush
Perfect for everyday wear, with a soft blushed-pink tone. This lip colour is glossy and really moisturising, which means it won’t dry your lips out – and the case is gorgeous.

5. Maybelline: Baby Lips Balm in Cherry Me
A very light lip balm colour with sheer coverage. There’s just a hint of red for those who aren’t quite take the plunge into wearing full coverage lippy on a daily basis. It’s perfect to wear on your ‘day off’ from red lipstick.
