I get up when my fur babies ( cat and dog) tell me to, stumble downstairs feed the cat, let the dog out the back garden, put on wellies and then let out and feed our chicken, come back inside put the kettle on, open the kitchen window for the cat to get in and out close back door when dog comes back in, have a quick bath clean teeth get dressed etc remember I’ve put the kettle on and get on with making breakfast.
I always pick up a coffee and croissant from my local deli on my way to work, the perfect start to the day!
During the week I get up too late so I have to hurry to get to work, brew a coffee for my travel mug and I’m off.
On weekends I like to sleep as late as possible- noon is a good time to get up!
Every morning, I get up just before my partner to make coffee and bring it back to bed. We have a quiet cup together before he starts his workday at the hospital and I get back to writing my PhD!
My gorgeous lab puppy, Winnie, is our alarm clock. My husband or I get up to let her out and immediately put on a pot of coffee. When it’s ready we pour a go-cup to share and enjoy hot coffee while we take an early walk with Winnie. A fantastic start to each day!
It is very chaotic in my household every morning. Getting our kids (5.5 and 3 year old) ready and be out of the door by 7.45am is no mean feat. There is breakfast to be made (for the kids, not us), hair to brush, bags to be ready etc the list is endless. But, no matter what happens, my husband and I never miss having a good cuppa coffee, we need it to kick start our day!
My morning ritual consists of a pair of fluffy slippers and super soft pyjamas.
I pad my way down the stairs to the kitchen, switch on the fairy lights and then put the kettle on to make myself a lovely steaming hot and restorative coffee in one of my (rather large) floral mugs. More recently I have been adorning my coffee with mini pink and white marshmallows; a festive treat I tell myself, but one that might remain well into January I think because it is actually super delicious.
I grasp my coffee and snuggle down on the sofa with my two beautiful dogs to get ready to face the day …
Our Morning Ritual
He wakes up and heads straight to the gym.
I wake up. Turn over. Snooze, and stay in bed for three extra minutes.
He smashes an intense workout.
I slowly get up. Stretch and tiptoe to the kitchen.
He is back and the sound of the shower splashes.
I break the silent morning peace, grinding coffee beans.
Coffee. Fresh. Smell.
He joins me at the kitchen, smiling, full of energy.
I brew filtered coffee for two.
We sit down.
Talk, talk, talk.
Coupled by coffee.
And ’tis the best part of our day.
