Getting familiar with our fellow khoollectors out there is important to us. We love hearing from you guys and knowing what makes you tick. This week we had a chat with Hadassa, a Netherlands native with a passion for contemporary dance and reiki. So kick off your boots, grab a cuppa, and get to know Hadassa…

What do you do?
I work as a production coordinator and assistant for the artistic director of a contemporary dance company specifically geared for young audiences, Project Sally Maastricht. I’m also a reiki master and want to start my own little catering ‘thing’. I’m not sure yet how it’s supposed to look, but in my head, I’ll make nice dinners that people can pick up after work right before they go home and bake sweet little somethings that’ll just make you happy. I want to bring some rest and peace and love into people’s lives. Cooking makes me feel very relaxed, so does reiki; it’s all about sharing some love….

What do you #khoollect?
I khoollect recipes, sunglasses and bikes. I let myself get inspired by fashion, art, photography and food. I collect happy thoughts and lovely friends, which in the end all leads to unexpected, inspiring and lovely little bits and bobs.

What’s your favourite post on Khoollect of the month so far?
Rachel Khoo’s Tips: Keeping Warm When Temperatures Drop‘. I think this is my most favourite subject during the colder months of the year. I really don’t like the cold, so I either try to escape it, or try to warm up with baking or hiding under a pile of blankets. So let the warm-up tips keep coming.

What’s your favourite snack?
I can’t choose just one…I love poffertjes, but you can also wake me up for melktert (an Afrikaans cake; very simple but oh so yummy) or just simply give me some really good French cheese.

Where’s your go-to hangout in Maastricht?
I just moved to Maastricht, but I would say Coffeelovers. They serve the best coffee in town and also have really nice lunch tarts and savouries.

How do you get cosy during the cold winter months?
Winter is absolutely not one of my favourite seasons. But I love to warm it up with some candles in the room, blankets (lots of blankets!) on the couch and some warm soup or a chai latte. Or just simply escape to South Africa, the country I fell in love with more than ten years ago.

What’s your ideal Christmas day?
Coming from a ‘not so happy’ family, Christmas was not something to look forward to. But last year my niece and me thought to break this tradition of feeling unhappy and alone by starting our own Christmas. We began collecting our favourite recipes, and going to the shops and market to buy all our fresh ingredients (and lots of cheese). And then spend a whole day in the kitchen. That was the best Christmas… a new tradition has started.

What are your plans for New Years Eve?
One of the really Dutch traditions is oliebollen. Some people buy them at the stands in the street you’ll find all over the city. But me and my friend like to bake them ourselves. At the end, you smell the same as your delicious treats but it’s the best way to start New Years. And what’s better than to treat your friends to something really tasty, raise a glass and jump into another wonderful and exciting new year?!
