Adult colouring, kombucha fermenting and putting homemade gifts in mason jars may not be for everyone, but finding your creative groove is important because it allows you to embrace everyday life in a way that is compelling and more fulfilling. If you’d like to explore your creative side, whether it be in the kitchen, at the office or during your free-time, there are simple ways to include creative thinking into your daily routine. Swapping out small, unproductive habits for invigorating hobbies can make all the difference.

How to spark creativity when you’re feeling uninspired …

Tech-no-logy
Hours of Facebook scrolling and Snapchat selfie taking may not be the best resource of creative productivity. Although Netflix chill-out time can be very necessary, try to limit the series and find time to draw, read and create instead. Take a step away from technology and go outside for some fresh air instead, something as simple as a walk can foster new ideas. That being said, technology can be used in an effective way to get your creative juices flowing; apps like Day One, Unstuck, Brushes and Clear are great for being mindful with your time and how you’d like to spend it.

Schedule it in
Using your diary to set dates and to-dos may seem rigid and completely contrary to being creative, but there are benefits of being organised. Acknowledging your must-dos and when you need to do them is integral to time management and freeing up space to do your creative thing. Set time aside for admin and paperwork, and dedicate a period of your day to your hobby of choice. It’s all about that work and life balance.

Zzzzzz
It’s tough to have energy for anything when you’re sleep deprived, it can feel impossible to focus on even the smallest of tasks – nevermind create – when you’re tired. Get the rest you need by settling into a nighttime routine. Perhaps a bath, cup of tea and book is just what you need for a good night’s sleep. Your genius creative breakthroughs aren’t going to happen when you’re feeling exhausted!

Own It
You have to own who you are and what you’re creating. There’s no need to be afraid of sharing your creative work or ideas with others. If you’re open about what you’re getting up to, whether it be starting a blog, writing your first novel or becoming a polyglot phenomenon  – it’ll allow collaboration and a sense of community with others who share the same interests. Be proud.
