For both tourists and locals alike, London can be a costly place to spend time exploring. But, with a little research, you can find a bevvy of things to do for five pounds or less. We’ve done the tricky part for you, and put together a list of things to do in London for a fiver. Here are our recommendations:

  1. Set your sights on a Shakespearean play
For only £5, you can score yourself a standing ticket in the yard of Shakespeare’s Globe. There are around 700 standing spots available for each show, but get in early to find your ideal vantage point.
  2. Climb The Monument
Built between 1671 and 1677 to commemorate the Great Fire of London, The Monument costs only £4 to climb (for an adults ticket).
  3. Laugh your socks off at a comedy show
For £5 you can book a seat at a Top Secret Comedy Club gig. You may just see the next big thing in British comedy.

  4. Fill up on samples at a food market
Head to one of London’s largest food hubs, such as Borough Markets, and taste-test the free samples on site. And, use the fiver to buy a beverage or a take-home treat.

  5. Hire a deck chair in Hyde Park
Experience a quintessential London outing in the park, while you recline in one of the popular park’s striped chairs. If you’ve got any coin leftover, you can hop on one of the city’s bikes for hire and take yourself on a tour of the park.

And, there are plenty of things you can still do for free in the British capital: you can have a wander around the Houses of Parliament, pop in and out of famous buildings and churches, walk through Columbia Road’s famed flower markets, visit a city farm, step inside the British Library, swim in a lido, and walk between popular tourist spots like Big Ben and Tower Bridge.
