This week’s contender is Liz May, illustrator, designer and Cornish dweller. Time to find out a little more about her and her illustration and design business Skantlyn:

Where in the world do you live? Truro, Cornwall, UK

What do you khoollect? Colourful things that have patterns, I love fifties and vintage Scandinavian style pottery, so I love looking in charity shops to see what unusual things I can find. I also love design, illustration and pattern books and seem to have collected lots of these along the way.

What’s your favourite recipe? Being from Cornwall, a nice Pasty of course. But I love cooking a Thai curry or a nice vegetable chilli with lots of fresh spices and herbs.

What’s your favourite book? It’s actually ‘Print and Pattern’ by Bowie Style. I remember going into Waterstones a few years ago and being really inspired by all the wonderful prints and thinking I would love to do this too. This book really got me into creating patterns and illustrations for products, before this I didn’t really know what surface pattern was all about.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? ‘Do your best’, which is what my Mum has always said to me.
