Outdoor Escapes In East London

Forget fad diets, green smoothies, and other extreme detox regimes – one of the most simple and effective activities you can do to improve your wellbeing is to enjoy some good old fashioned fresh air. As we all look for ways and means to improve our lifestyles, it’s no surprise that #GetOutside was one of the most popular hashtags of 2015 – it’s a value we’re all starting to take to heart.

East London is a stomping ground we’re familiar with here at Khoollect HQ, so to make your weekend in the Big Smoke as fresh and natural as possible, here’s our top three outdoor escapes:

Victoria Park

Victoria Park, or Vicky Park as it’s known amongst Londoners, is one of the gems that East London has to offer. Home of Winterville and a whopping 212 acres of greenery, spending a few hours here is a relaxing way to bring in the weekend. Pair your trip with a cooked breakfast at Pavillion Bakery or become a sailor for an afternoon at the boating pond.

Abney Park Cemetery

Suggesting to someone that they should spend their next available Saturday in a cemetery may not be the top of your agenda, but Abney Park Cemetery is something different. It’s abandoned, reckless and overgrown, making it one of the coolest green spaces in Stoke Newington. Steeped in history and full of wild, carefree flowers in the summer, it’s a curious place to be.

London Fields

For a bustling environment, nothing beats London Fields on a Saturday morning. Broadway market-goers and their dogs while away the hours enjoying coffee and pastries while catching up with their friends – the atmosphere is electric and invigorating. Stroll through the market for lunch and pick up your veg for the week, then end up at Netil House for the best grilled cheese sandwich you’ll taste in your life.
